A former Wiltshire Police officer has avoided prison after being found in possession of 1,590 indecent images and videos of children—some involving victims as young as five years old.

Callum Denley, who once aspired to a long career in policing, was supported by his parents at Swindon Crown Court.

The court heard that his only remaining support system was his family, as he had lost all of his friendships due to the gravity of his offences.

Denley had joined the police force at 19, following years as a cadet, but his career ended in disgrace just six months later when his crimes came to light.

Judge Townsend acknowledged Denley’s expressions of remorse and his engagement with rehabilitation efforts.

As a result, he handed down a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Denley must now complete 40 rehabilitation activity days and attend a sex offender treatment programme.

He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for a decade and is subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
