A chef who carried out sickening sex attacks on a boy has been put behind bars.
James Clark showered his victim with expensive treats in a bid to try to ensure his silence.
Newcastle Crown Court heard it was years later that the victim found the courage to speak out about what had been done to him.
Clark, of Stoddart Street, South Shields, initially denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations were “lies”.
But on the day he was due to be tried by a jury the 39-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges of oral rape, three of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of sexual activity with a child.
The victim, who is now an adult, said in an impact statement: “James Clark has, without doubt, ruined my life.”
Judge Robert Adams sentenced Clark to 14 years and four months behind bars.Clark must sign the sex offenders register and abide by a sexual harm prevention order for life.
The judge said the offences were “appalling abuse of a child who was vulnerable”.
The court heard Clark has a conviction for engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
Elizabeth Muir, defending, said Clark sought counselling to deal with his problems and has had mental health issues.
Miss Muir said “it is right this defendant’s behaviour is utterly abhorrent” but she added: “He describes himself as a different person back then.”
Miss Muir said Clark became a target for “unknown individuals” after the details of his offending were posted on social media by vigilante group Geordie Chasers.

⛔FIRST EXPOSURE⛔
Yesterday (Wednesday 10th of March), James Clark,41, South Shields, appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to :-
5 counts of Rape.
3 counts of sexual assault
2 counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
These offences date back to 2007 and started when the young male was only 12 years old and was a neighbour to his 27 year old abuser.
The abuse started when the young boy was cutting the rest of the neighbours grass in the Horsley Hill area of South Shields, to earn a bit of pocket money as he didn’t have much himself so used his initiative to start earning.
James saw this vulnerable young boy and decided to take advantage of him.
James offered to take the young boy to the pictures as payment for doing his garden and while there watching the film James took his opportunity and sexually assaulted the young boy for the first time.
From that point he groomed the poor young boy and raped him on many more occasions over a three month period, including at his home and even the Metrocentre.
He bought the young boy lavish gifts that his parents could NEVER afford in order to BUY his SILENCE.
This only came to light after an altercation where James grabbed the young boy in a headlock in his flat, the young boy ran and told his sister told him to stay away, not knowing how serious it was back then.
James packed up and moved within the hour of the headlock happening.
The young boy became a 27 year old man and in 2019 finally found the strength and courage to tell the police AND finally his parents.
The police built a case and James was arrested and charged, he initially went ‘NOT GUILTY’ but later changed his plea to GUILTY when he appeared in court yesterday.
James has been bailed until Tuesday 25th of May for sentencing, which the judge told him to EXPECT a CUSTODIAL sentence.

Once James has been sentenced the survivor of this horrible ordeal will be named as by HIS OWN request as he is waving his right to anonymity in a bid to give others the strength to come forward.
When we asked the male survivor if he would like to add anything to our story he said…
“I would like add that nobody should think they wont be beleived if they need to report it they will be believed and also that male rape does happen and not just to females that suffer this awful crime”
